North Texas Green Infrastructure Project
January 14, 2010
I am proposing the creation of a GIS mapping and environmental
awareness project for the preservation of undeveloped land,
farmland, and environmentally-sensitive areas. The project will
focus on rural communities and counties north of Dallas.
At this time, there is little online information to identify "green
infrastructure" north of Dallas in rural areas. This is particularly
important in areas that have fewer development regulations and
less oversight than incorporated areas and cities.
Green Infrastructure is open space, farmland, water resources,
habitats, forests, parks, and other environmentally-sensitive areas.
I am looking for a non-profit environmental organization to partner
with me and possibly the University of North Texas to start a pilot
project.
The project goals are:
1. Creation of an on online GIS mapping system of Green
Infrastructure Maps for North Texas.
2. Public education on Green Infrastructure, Open Space, and
Farmland Preservation
3. Regional Planning Information for areas north of Dallas to the
Oklahoma border
4. Dissemination of Maps to Governmental Agencies and
Organizations in rural counties and communities.
5. Creation of a special project for local environmental
organization to raise awareness of regional environmental issues.
6. Review of the land development review process in rural
communities.
Please contact me if you are interested in helping or becoming a
partner organization. Thank you.
